Art Gallery of Hamilton

Art Gallery of Hamilton

123 King Street West (King at Summer's Lane)
Hamilton, Ontario
Structure: concrete
Completed 1977
Architect: Trevor Garwood-Jones
Style: Modern

What appeals to me is the continuity of the gallery's beige-coloured concrete cladding with its spacious plaza. Fountains, sunken water pools, and outdoor sculptures contribute to a remarkably tranquil setting amidst a bustling downtown. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is Ontario's third largest public art gallery, and Canada's ninth largest.
