This 535-foot, 42-storey tower is the tallest educational building in the US, and the
second-tallest educational building in the world. Construction began in 1926 but was
delayed for many years by the Depression and lack of funding. After a campaign for
donations from the general public, the building was finally completed and opened in 1937.
The Indiana limestone cladding is carved with elaborate Gothic ornamentation.
