Why does this person hate me so much?

I've come to learn that sometimes a person has a really negative emotional reaction to a new person simply because—through classical conditioning—the new person reminds him of a particularly unpleasant person from his past. In other words, the hatred or other negative emotion doesn't really have anything to do with the object of hatred. I think it's always useful to keep this in mind—especially when thinking about our own powerful emotional reactions to people.
